Litigation

Every year, Kvale’s lawyers litigate a number of cases in all judicial instances.

Like other areas of law, legal proceedings in the ordinary courts and arbitration require specialised lawyers to achieve the best possible result. Litigation is an art form that involves legal, tactical and practical strategies. The fact that the complexity and scope of civil disputes have increased in recent years means that there is an even greater need for specialist litigators. At Kvale, we have placed the lawyers with the most experience and greatest interest in legal proceedings into a separate specialist litigation group. Parts of this group have become further specialised from extensive and lengthy court cases.

In any dispute of a certain size, a team is assembled which includes at least one lawyer from the litigation department and one of Kvale's specialists from the areas which the dispute applies to. This ensures high quality in every facet. Therefore, in addition to legal proficiency, in each case our team is also provided with a particularly good commercial insight into and understanding of the challenges that our clients face. As a result of this, we represent several of the country's largest companies, including within oil, gas, energy, and IP/TMT.

Kvale has built up a position as an internationally renowned litigation firm and has achieved high rankings in publications such as Legal 500 and Chambers. A significant number of our lawyers have experience as deputy judges. Lawyers at Kvale are also regularly appointed as arbitrators. Our extensive portfolio has resulted in Kvale having 10 lawyers who have been admitted to the Supreme Court.

Our services include:

  • Negotiations, mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Tactical and strategic advice.
  • Attachments and interim injunctions.
  • Litigation assignments before the district court, court of appeal and the Supreme Court.
